Earl Kenneth Parris, 87, of Asheville and St. James City, FL passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009. A native of Madison Co; he was a son of the late John and Ethel Whiteside Parris. He is also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Trent Cox, a sister, Dorothy Rice and a brother Lewis Parris. Mr. Parris was the owner and operator of Red's Used Auto Parts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Albert W. Grant. Surviving are his wife, Christine Morris Parris; a son, Kenneth Parris (Janice) of Davie, FL; three daughters, Jenny Barbee (Dewey) of Asheville, Shirley Greene (Jim) of Gainesville, FL and Lou Ellen McLean (Ralph) of St. James City, FL; a brother, JC Parris of Asheville, a sister, Betty Pittman of Candler; four grandchildren, Amanda Gabbitt, Amy McLean, David McLean (Keiko) and Matthew Parris; and two great-grandchildren, Hiroji and Rikiji McLean. A funeral service will be held Thursday 2:00 pm November 12, 2009 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. with Rev. Dennis L. Thurman officiating. Interment will follow at Bent Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team will provide military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

    I was so sorry to hear that Mr. Parris had passed away. He was always such a sweet and giving person. As a child, I remember Daddy calling him ‘Red’. Later when he came to Wachovia, after I had not seen him in years, he started bringing me special things he made, and I will always cherish them. My thoughts are with you.
