Earl Wayne Conner, 78, of 61 Gap Creek Road, Fletcher, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999.

Mr. Conner was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and an Army veteran of WW II, where he was a Bronze Star recipient and a staff sergeant in the
Corps of Engineers.  He was a son of the late Thomas Wayne Conner and Nora Lowe Conner Nelson.  He was a self-employed drag-line operator and a member of the Woodmen of the World, Avery’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church, and the Chapel.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Penley Conner;  two daughters, Betty J. Meece of Arden and Barbara A. Conner of the home;  three sons, Billy Wayne Conner and Earl J. Conner of Mountain Home and Bobby J. Conner of Fletcher;  two sisters, Mary Lee Joyce of Asheville and Amilee Rogers of Harrisville, NH;  eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Tuesday in the chapel of the WNC Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, with the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Harris and the Rev. Gayle Brown officiating.  The Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team will provide military rites in the Veterans Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tony, Kenneth, and Scott Meece, Gary and Mark
Conner, and Tony Corn.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Monday at Groce Funeral
Home on Patton Avenue.
