Fairview – Edgar Lee Ledford, 85, of Fairview, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Fleshers Fairview Health and Retirement Center. Edgar was a native of Yancey County and lived in Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a son of the late Walter C. and Dullie McMahan Ledford. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during WWII. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Searcy Ledford; one daughter, Carolyn Lippard and her husband, Mike, of Fairview; one son, Kenneth Ledford and his wife, Tonya, of Fairview; one brother, Alvin Ledford of Oteen; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2011 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at noon on Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 212 Bethany Church Road, Fairview, NC 28730.
