Edith Black Childs
February 23, 1917 ~ October 21, 1999
Edith Black Childs, 82, formerly of Pisgah Highway, Candler, died Thursday, October, 21, 1999 in a local nursing facility.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse J. and Josie Hayes Black. She was preceded in death by her husband W. Fred Childs. She was owner/operator of Edith's Beauty Nook on Pisgah Highway for 32 years and a graduate
of Dorland Bell School. She was former president of the Toastmistress Club, the Hominy Valley Garden Club and was a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron Elect. She was a member of Hominy Baptist Church where she formerly sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.
Mrs. Childs is survived by her daughter Bethany Sizemore and her husband Michael of Candler; four
sisters, Hiawatha Anders, Hilda Abernethy, Virginia Brown, Celeste Bartlett and a brother William I. Black all of Asheville.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with
the Reverend Joe Yelton officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends 7- 8:30 Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hominy Baptist Church or to Upper Hominy Volunteer Fire Department.

We were so sorry to hear about Edith. I will always remember her kindness to every friend you had when we were growing up. She was a neat lady. We think of you often.
