Fletcher – Edith Drake Reed, 88, of Williams Road, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Oda Bagwell Drake, wife of the late Ivey B. Reed, Jr., who died in 1991 and was also preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Drake. She was a member of the Biltmore Eastern Star and the Mountaineer Good Sams Club. She is survived by her husband, Johnnie J. Perkins; daughter, Dianna Reed of Mission, Texas; son, David E. Reed and his wife, Margaret, of Fletcher; three grandchildren, David Reed, Jr. and his wife, Jamie, Denise Reed and Daniel Reed and his wife, Lori, and by five great grandchildren, James Reed, Megan Reed, Daniel Reed, Jr., David Reed, III and Jesika Shake. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Interment will follow in Tweeds Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Edith's five great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tweeds Chapel Cemetery Fund.

  8. My aunt Edie was a wonderful lady. My childhood Christmas memories will stay with me forever. I was always so excited as a child on Christmas, because I knew I could count on Aunt Edie for a new tea set! She will be in my heart forever.
