Fairview ~ Edith Louise Cox Coward, 87, of Cane Creek Circle, died on Friday, September 21, 2007 at her residence. She was born in Blue Springs, Mississippi and was the daughter of the late James Walker Cox and Vera Littlejohn Cox. She was preceded in death by her husband Aubrey James Coward in 2002 and a sister, Lucille Wilder. Edith graduated from Mississippi State College for Women, where she studied business and english. During WWII, she worked in the War Department at the Pentagon. After the war, she married Master Sergeant Aubrey Coward. They were stationed in various places including Germany, Hawaii and South Carolina. Edith taught english and continuing education classes at the Job Corps Center in Cherokee, NC, where she retired from the Civil Service. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Fetzer of Birmingham, Al; a son, Aubrey James Coward, II and his wife Julia of Asheville; four grandchildren, Ashley Fowler and husband Josh, Evan Coward and his wife Christina Manee, Abigail Coward and Alex Coward; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Luke Fowler and Kally-Anna Joy Fowler; a sister, Mary Jane Lyons and her husband, Russell of Memphis, TN and a brother, James Cox and his wife June of Cullman, AL. A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with John Hugget officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. – 8:30 P.M. on Monday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.     She will be missed, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and a great friend.

  2. I only met your Mom a few times but like your Dad, she made a lasting impression as a sweet, concerned lady who was interested in not only your welfare but that of your friends, and for that, I am certainly grateful.
