Edna Pelton Kirschner

Edna Bell Pelton Kirschner, 98, of Swannanoa, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017, at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in North Dakota in 1918, she was a homemaker and an active member of Groce United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the VA Hospital for over thirty years. In 2013 she achieved the Cornerstone Award and in 2015 was honored for her 12,000 hours of service. Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Nick F. Kirschner. Survivors include her son, Gerald Burr Kirschner of Swannanoa; grandsons, Todd Sommons (Martha) of Palm Desert, CA, and Joel Kirschner (Betsy) of Swannanoa; two great granddaughters, Brianna and Hannah Kirschner of Swannanoa; and her sister, Alice Tollifson of Wyoming. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Groce UMC with Rev. Gerald Davis officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.
