Edward E. Black, Sr., 92, passed away on October 31, 2008, at Wellington Place in Fort Walton Beach, FL.
He was born on February 21, 1916 in Asheville, NC, to Tracy and Grace Owen Black. Edward resided in Asheville all his life prior to moving to Fort Walton Beach in December 2002. His wife of 58 years, Nancy Patterson Black, predeceased him in 1996.
Edward, a railroad yardmaster, retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad in 1978 after 38 years service. Additionally, he was a district manager for the Asheville Citizen-Times for over 25 years.
He is survived by his sons and their wives, Edward Black, Jr. and Sara of Dade City, FL., Charles Black, Sr. and Helen of Shalimar, FL., Ronald Black and Lynn of Oak Ridge, NC; grandchildren, Julie Black Pitts (Kirk) of Dade City, FL, Amy Black Murphy (Steve) of Daytona Beach, FL, Franklin Black, Jr. (Ginny) of Jacksonville, FL, Nancy Black Hamilton (Chad) of Niceville, FL, Ashley Black of Oak Ridge, NC, and Christopher Black of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Camryn Pitts, Jackson Pitts, Cade Black, Carly Black, Jackson Hamilton, Anna Grace Hamilton; and sister, Virginia Black of Front Royal, VA.
Graveside services will be held at Lewis Memorial Park on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is in charge of the arrangements.
