Arden ~ Edwin “Toady“ Parmley Shuford, 82, of Arden, died October 10, 2006 at a local hospital. A native of Weaverville, he was a son of the late Bessie Garrison Shuford. and William A. Shuford, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bowles Shuford, one son, Ronald E. Shuford, two sisters, Geraldine Hardee, Louise Shuford and a brother James Ray Shuford. A graduate of Valley Springs High School, he attended Mars Hill College. A US Navy veteran serving during WW II, Mr. Shuford was a rural mail carrier in the Fairview community. He was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church and Past Master of the Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge # 118, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shrine, KYCH, a Certified Lecturer and Past Master of the Land of the Sky Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by one daughter, Pam Murray and husband Lex of Arden; one grandson, Ryan Murray of Arden; one sister, May Shuford of Asheville; one brother, William A. Shuford, Jr. and wife “Berty” of Asheville; honorary sister and brother, Rosa Leah Volpe of Asheville and Steve Shuford of Flat Rock; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with the Rev. Dr. James White officiating. Masonic graveside service will be conducted by the Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge # 118 following the funeral service at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. ~ 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. The lodge will open and close at 12:00 noon on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
