Elisabeth P. Blumenthal (known as Ellen to her American friends and Ellie to her German friends), 87, daughter of Alois and Emma Fellmann (both deceased) passed away peacefully on June 7, 2012 at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC after suffering a massive stroke.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Karl Heinz Blumenthal, her daughter Eveline Blumenthal Rosegrant, son in law Phil Murrel Rosegrant of Niceville, FL, two granddaughters, Elizabeth (Lizzie) and Alison Rosegrant of Cincinnati, OH, her brother Heinz Fellmann and his wife Marianne and daughter Tanja of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
Ellen, originally from Germany, has been in North America since 1955 and in Asheville since 1971. She retired from John Carroll Fashion Store in downtown Asheville after over 20 years of service. Even before retirement Ellen and Karl enjoyed traveling all over Europe, the United States and Canada visiting every state in the US and every province in Canada at least once and in many cases more than once. Traveling, by far, was Ellen and Karl's favorite past time. She was a wonderful wife, Mother and Grandmother and she will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends on June 12, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home, 856 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC. Memorials may be made to the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC, 28813.
I have many fond memories of your Mom and Grandmother – sitting at her sewing machine at John Caroll’s. My grandmother was Elizaber ‘Nortie’ who worked at John Caroll’s also.
May you hold fond memories in your heart forever!

It was so wonderful to know Ellen over the past years and to remember her and Karl as the best of neighbors. Ellen always had a twinkle in her eye and was eager to share stories of her family and her travels. She and Karl were so close and she was very proud of Eveline, Phil and her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew this special woman. Our thoughts are with you during this time of loss and sorrow.
Karl, old friend. So sorry to hear of your loss. God bless you and your family
Karl, I am so sorry for your loss. We were in Durham until yesterday. I will miss seeing Ellie and you and talking each time you came in. I am sorry I missed the service.
Karl,
My heart was filled with so much joy whenever Ellen came to the pool last year. She was an incredible woman, and she radiated positivity. I will never forget the conversations we had, or the small things she would do that made me smile, like calling herself an old lady but still having more energy than anyone I knew. The love you felt for her Karl, was palpable. She was blessed to have you as her husband and she loved you so, so much. God bless you and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. I love you and Ellen both very much! 🙂
Love,
