Elizabeth Grubbs Carter, 91, of 301 Lakewood Drive, Asheville, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2007.
Mrs. Carter was born February 2, 1915, in Hot Springs, to the late O.W. and Fanny Grubbs. A graduate of Meredith College and Mars Hill College, Elizabeth worked as an administrator and teacher for many years in the towns around Asheville. She also served as the librarian for Asheville Catholic High School.
At the age of 65, she started her second and favorite career as a salesperson for Ivey’s (now Dillards) at Asheville Mall.
She loved her home and gardens on Kenilworth Lake. Elizabeth was an avid knitter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coach J. Ted Carter (teacher and basketball coach for Asheville High School).
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Michael W. Carter and his wife, Linda, of Asheville; grandsons, Michael W. Carter, Jr. and wife Allyson, and Chad Stuart Carter; great-grandchildren, Danielle Elizabeth Carter and Gregory Stuart Carter, all of the Greensboro area; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Carter New and Bernice Carter Bradham of Asheville, and niece, Courtney King Guyer of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with the Rev. Dr. Robert M. Blackburn officiating.
Her family will receive friends immediately following the service.
