Elizabeth Harden Anthony died on March 31,2023 at the age of 95 in Asheville.
Born in Modesto, California, the only child of Vance and Frances Harden, she graduated from Stanford University in 1949 where she majored in economics. Later she received a Master of Library Sciences degree from the University of Maryland and subsequently held several positions including head librarian for the Comptroller of the Currency.
Betty was married to William H. Anthony in the Stanford Chapel in 1949 and accompanied her foreign service husband to the Philippines, Iran, Israel, Afghanistan, Turkey, and Canada.
Following Bill’s retirement she lived in Black Mountain from 1979 to 1989, in Crowfields for 14 years, and the Deerfield Retirement Community since 2003. Betty greatly enjoyed the friendships she made in the Travelers Club, McGuffey’s Reader, The Chicken Croquette Club, and the Asheville Racquet Club.
She is survived by her son, Vance Howard Anthony of Arlington, VA and daughter, Charing Anthony Pellisero and husband Terry of San Luis Obispo, CA.
Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.
Betty was a wonderful person, her many friends will miss her.
