April 22, 1935 ~ April 26, 2021

Born in: Buncombe County, NC
Resided in: Skyland, NC

Ellen Penley, 86, of Skyland, died Monday, April 26, 2021 at her residence.

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late John and Lena Rogers Roberts. Ellen was also preceded in death by a son, David E. Penley as well as her husband, Eugene Penley.

Ellen was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She was retired from the Gerber baby food plant. She had a contagious smile and a great sense of humor.

She loved sewing, reading and gardening and was known to be able to root or revive just about any plant. She was a wonderful cook and passed along that passion to her daughters. Her true joy was having the entire family gathered in the kitchen and around the table while she prepared a big meal. Ellen enjoyed listening to music and especially going to blue grass festivals and was an avid fan of the shindig on the green.

She also loved “spur of the moment” family road trips and was always ready for the next adventure. Some of our most treasured memories will be our “all day Sunday picnics” which was our summer time tradition.

Ellen will be missed by so many, but her spirit will forever be a part of everyone who knew and loved her.

She is survived by two daughters, Carrie Pressley of Brevard and Marian Penley of Asheville; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Penley of Easley, SC; three grandchildren, Chris Rollins (Kim), Beverly Rollins Hoxit (Daniel) and Shannon Penley Lewis (Tommy); five great-grandchildren, Haley, Chance, Noah, Nicholas and Cody as well as one great-great granddaughter, Ruby.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.
