Ellington Anderson Lackey

Ellington Anderson "EA" Lackey, 76, of Weaverville, died Monday, April 4, 2016. A native of Shelby, NC, he was a son of the late Roy and Mildred Lackey. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Lackey, Frank Lackey, and Tommy Lackey; and one sister, Barbara Lackey Russell. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. EA graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville. He then graduated from Mars Hill College in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, and he worked in accounting for several years. He attended the School of Theology at Emory University and received a Masters of Divinity on March 20, 1975. He served as a Chaplain in Atlanta for several years. After moving back to Asheville he was associated with the Economy Oil Company for many years. EA was a very kind and generous person. He was always willing to help others. He looked after his parents when they were sick - always there in time of need. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by eight nieces and two nephews. He had many devoted friends and caregivers. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Lail officiating.
