Eloise L. Davis, 78, formerly of 57 Salola Street, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at her home at 741 Starnes Cove Road, Asheville. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late James “Jim” and Strobie Hawkins Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Davis in 1988; a sister, Frances Tipton; a granddaughter, Kathy Conard and a great-granddaughter, Chelsea Lace Rich. She was retired from American Enka after 37 years of service and was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church. Mrs. Davis is survived by three daughters, Lucille Conard and her husband Bob of Candler, Carolyn Rich and her husband Gerald, Sr of Asheville and Mary Ann Christopher and her husband James of Asheville; a son, James Clyde “Jimmy” Davis and his wife Sheila of Candler; ten grandchildren including the pallbearers and Lisa Core, Tammy Ballard, Amanda Davis and Sheila Ball; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles Sams officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with grandsons, Joe and Rick Conard, Gerald Rich, Jr., Michael Rich, Jeff Miller and Eric Andrew Davis serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Special appreciation goes to hospice workers, Pam and Laurie, for the care they provided to Mrs. Davis.
