Eloise Ruth Glenn, 97, of Mills River, went to Heaven on February 28, 2015. She joins her beloved husband, Posey B. Glenn, whom she married on November 3, 1935. A native of Henderson County, she was born February 25, 1918 and was the last remaining of thirteen children born to Homer J. Ruth and Ida Israel Ruth. Surviving are her children: David Glenn (Eva), Ed Glenn (Cheryl), Mary Stewart (Thaylon), Rebecca Nesbitt (Jack) and Brenda Livingston (Rick) all of Mills River. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. She was loved by all of her family. Mrs. Glenn loved the Lord, her family and friends and her church. A woman of unwavering faith, she was a source of strength, encouragement and wisdom. Mrs. Glenn was known as a prayer warrior. Mrs. Glenn began playing the organ and piano in church at an early age. She later sang with several singing church groups. She taught Sunday School and enjoyed placing floral arrangements in the sanctuary prepared from flowers from her own garden. In 1958, she and her husband were two of the founding members of Words of Life Tabernacle. They were pillars of strength and faith to the church and community. She loved to cook, often making extra cookies and biscuits for her grandchildren. She was a student of art in her younger years and later in life she began oil painting. She loved to sew; she was well known for making dresses. In her final years, she embroidered scarves as a pastime. She loved to read and taking care of sick people. She always wanted to be a nurse. She also enjoyed tending to her large flower garden. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the Words Of Life Tabernacle. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 PM on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Words of Life Tabernacle. Memorials may be made to Words of Life Tabernacle of Glenn Bridge Road, Arden, NC 28704. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  1. What a wonderful woman. She was strong influence in many lives. I think about her now just running down the streets of gold, praising the name of Jesus. She’s saying I fought the fight, I’ve kept the faith and NOW I AM HOME. Love and prayers to the family.

  3. I am not sure I ever met this lady, but she was the matriarch of a fine family so she must have been a lovely lady. May God wrap comforting arms around each member of the family that will miss her presence.
