Elsie Gertrude Holbert Clark, 89, formerly of 70 Martel Village, Asheville, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at a local nursing home. A native of Newport, TN, she was a daughter of the late James Marion and Ida Jenes Holbert. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Merrimon Clark, who died in 1971. She was a member of Elk Mountain Baptist Church. Mrs. Clark is survived by a son, Howard E. Clark and his wife Dottie of Weaverville; two sisters, Leona Swann of Orange, VA and Gladys Banks of Melbourne, FL; two grandchildren, Howard Clark, Jr. and Karen Clark and three great-grandchildren, Timothy, Jessica and Daniel Clark. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Saturday at Elk Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Bobby Fox officiating. The family will receive friends at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue from 10:00-11:00 am Saturday before going in procession to the cemetery.
