  1. I worked with Elsie for many years. How this breaks my heart to see. Beautiful picture of her. I’m so sorry to Jack and her family who she loved tremendously. Her laughter was infectious.

  2. Elsie, our “Once-A-Month” lunch bunch will never be the same without you. You will be tremendously missed.

    Sandy Smith

  3. So very sorry to hear of Elsie’s passing. She was a dear friend and co-worker for many years. Prayers for the family and friends.

  4. I am very sad to hear this. She was a great person and friend. Jack my prayers are for you and your family to have peace and comfort in knowing she is now in heaven.

  5. Mrs. Benfield was always consistently pleasant when she worked at Reynolds High School. She would always take the time to talk to the students, me in particular. I haven’t seen her in many years, but I know that she will be sorely missed. God bless and comfort the Benfield family.

  6. What a beautiful smile she graced us with as we navigated through our high school years at Reynolds. She was a blessing to all of us.

  7. To Jack, Doug and Sheila,

My deepest sympathy for each of you. I will always remember Elsie’s beautiful smile and happy personality. I can still see her smiling face at every basketball game Jack coached for my brothers Jack, Robert and me. She will always be part of the “team” and the Oakley family.

  8. No matter how out of line we got, Mrs. Benfield always had something positive to say to us. From our days at Oakley School with Jack as our basketball coach to our days at Reynolds, she was always faithful and supportive. Mrs. Benfield was part of a special group, including our parents, that supported us for years. Jack, Doug and Sheila, our thoughts and prayers will be with you!

  9. We would like to express our sympathy to Jack & family in the death of Elsie. She was always wearing a pretty smile, and although we have been gone from Asheville many years now, we will always remember Elsie and Jack from Gashes Creek Baptist Church, where we all went when we were younger. We know she will be greatly missed by Jack & her family, but also by her church friends, neighbors and other friends she had made. Our prayers will be for all.

  10. Miss Elsie was a wonderful neighbor, so welcoming to my husband and I when we moved here. We were so lucky to have know her and Jack and we thank them for all the kindness they showed us.

  11. Elsie’s sweet smile and warm support are already missed. She was an integral member of our congregation.

She may now reside in Heaven, but her spirit remains with us. May that comfort Jack and her family as they grieve her loss.

  12. Jack, Doug and Sheila, May God wrap His arms of comfort tightly around you. Elsie was such a special person and was a great supporter of Sandra when I was in Vietnam. She will certainly be missed.

  13. What a beautiful lady on the exterior, with a beautiful heart! Her beautiful smile brought a smile to my face. She always made you feel loved. I remember her from my childhood when she would come to our house once a week. She was in the church youth group that my parents lead for years. She continued to share her love all through life! May God’s peace and love be with Jack and family in the coming days. May God Bless! Sandra (and Steve) McAbee

  14. Dear Jack Doug and Family,
So very sorry to hear of this great loss.
Elsie was such a beautiful soul. My deepest condolences.
