Emily Davis Wooten, 94, of Candler, joined our Heavenly Father on Monday, June 14, 2021, following a brief stay at Pisgah Manor Healthcare Center.
Emily is survived by her daughter, Paula Wooten Shields; her son, Timothy Wooten; beloved grandchildren, Bethany Wooten Cochran and husband Dalton, Ashley M. Parrott and husband Jamie, M.E. Brooke Shields, and Paige Pineda; great-grandchildren, Leon D. Cochran, Shaunice L. Williams, Jordan D. Parrott, Jake D. Parrott, Jeremy D. Parrott, Bella and Sam Pineda; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wooten was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, George Edward “Ed” Wooten; a daughter, Gordon Yvette Wooten Epley; her parents, James Turner Davis and Bessie Byrd Davis; sisters, Kathlyn Brigmon, Eunice Nichols, Jane Rose Brooks, Frances Davis, and Mary Jo Carter; and brother, James T. Davis, Jr.
Emily was a graduate of Candler High School, and entered the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. She worked as an industrial registered nurse at American Enka Co. and, along with her husband, worked at both the Enka NC site as well as the Central, SC site. After retirement, she returned to their Candler homeplace in 1987.
She was a member of Davis Chapel United Methodist Church, and was also a parishioner at Piney Mountain United Methodist, where she and her husband were active members throughout the years. She held different positions in the church, including playing the piano and teaching Sunday school.
Emily lived a full life, raising three children and enjoyed reading, drawing, painting, gardening, and was an accomplished seamstress.
The family wishes to give thanks to all those who were so caring, prayerful and supportive during and after her brief illness, and in the weeks following her passing.
The family will hold a celebration of life service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Because of health considerations, face masks are strongly encouraged. Private interment will take place at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to a covered dish meal at Piney Mountain United Methodist following the service.

I’m so sorry to hear about Mrs. Wooten. She always had a kind word and a beautiful smile each and every time I saw her. I’m sure she will be missed by many.
