ERNESTINE FISHER ASHEVILLE – Ernestine Sawyer Fisher, 93, formerly of Asheville, died Saturday, February 12, 2011, in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Fisher was born in Pacolet, SC and a daughter of the late Ernest P. and Lula Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Leon Fisher, who died in 1979, an infant son at birth, and a son Kenneth R. Fisher, who died in 2001. Mrs. Fisher was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church and formerly worked at Avondale Mills until it's closing where she earned employee of the year honors, also in the cafeteria at Enka High School where she retired and many summers before and after retirement at the Daniel Boone Boy Scout camp. She is survived by two sons, Douglas E. Fisher and wife, Mary, of Winston-Salem, and Ronald L. and wife Teresa, of Candler; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The love she had for her Lord and family is a witness for all who knew her. She treated everyone her three boys brought home as her own. Her memory will be cherished by many. Funeral services will be Wednesday February 16 at 3:00 in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. John T. Tiller officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds, Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.

  1. What a wonderful Grandmother! She was always such a blessing. My mind is filled with so many great memories of her. Her love of the Lord rubbed off onto us all. I know she is now in the presents of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ where He has prepared a room for her in His mansion. We will be together again one day soon!! I love you Nanny! The thought of heaven is even sweeter now that you are there.

  4. Doug,Ronnie and family, I remember your mom and dad growing up in West Asheville in the good old days. Especially your Dad. He was a wonderful dad that took the time to always work with you guys and teach you your baseball skills and how to be a great citizens. Your parents also taugh you guys about Jesus Christ and Heaven and how to get there. Have peace in the fact that your mom and dad are together with Kenny.I am going to have some repair surgery in Mission today on my knees (to much ball in my young years) or I would be at the service.     We are sorry to hear of the death of your sweet Mother. I have many fond memories of her and your father while growing up in our neighborhood. They were two fine people.

    One thing for sure is that they raised three wonderful son’s.
