Ernestine R. Erwin, 57, of 300 Old 19-23 Highway, Candler, died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. Mrs. Erwin was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Earnest R. and Blanche Sharpe Reeves. She was a 1972 graduate of Enka High. After having kids, she started a successful ceramics business, Ceramic Craze, and generously donated her time to teach others the craft. As her kids got older, she rejoined the workforce and spent 15 years at ITT Automotive and more recently at GE Aviation as an Engineering Administrative Assistant. She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Mrs. Erwin loved her family more than anything; she never met a stranger and was always an inspiration to others, bringing a smile to everyone around her. Those in need always found a friend and a helping hand, while stray cats and dogs always found a good home. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Tom Erwin; daughter Stephanie Garner (Matt); son, Nickie Buckner (Julia Pol Isaac); step-daughter, Hailey Medford (Isaac); step-son Craig Erwin; and brother Ronnie Reeves (Beth Lawing). The love she bestowed will always hold a special place in their hearts. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice John F. Keever Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

Guestbook

  1. Tom, Nick and JP, Steph and Matt, Graig, Haley and Issac, and Ronnie and Beth, my deepest heartfelt sympathy in the loss of such a free-spirited wife, mother, sister, and in my case, one-of-a-kind-friend. Looking the world over, there has never been a more special person with so much love and compassion to give. Thankfully you were all able to be there for her as she was always there for everybody else. Even in this trying time, she was still worried about what you would all do without her but never had a selfish thought to worry about herself. Thankfully she is in a better place and has left her memories forever engraved in the hearts of many who will always rememer how full of life she was and how much love she bestowed on the people who were lucky enough to have known and loved her. Love and prayers to you all.

Please be assured of our love and concern for the both of you during this time. Ernie was just like a mom to me and I felt like she thought I was a second son, even when she didn’t recognize me when I pretended to be selling Bibles at her house a year ago :). Please let me know if you need anything. Jackie will do a great job using the Word to bring comfort at the funeral. He taught me everything I know. Love you, brother and sis!

  15. As with many others, Ernie was like a second mom. She bestowed her great wisdom, Ernieisms, love and laughter upon all that who were blessed to have known her. She has started a new and wonderful journey so don’t be sad. Rejoice in the fact that she will live on in everyones heart that had the privilege of meeting her. I love you guys and you are all in my prayers.

  16. Ernie, We all loved you so much, you were such a great person, wife, mother, friend, employee, and such a great and important part of our lives. You were always willing to help with a big smile and from the goodness of your heart. You gave so much and expected so little in return. We will forever miss you. Only God knows why you had to be taken so soon, however, we all know that he had a great purpose in life for you and that you more than fulfilled that purpose with goodness and greatness, rest in peace. May God Bless and keep your family during these difficult times and forever and ever.

  40. From all the comments left so far it is very clear that Ernestine was dearly loved by so very many people. I pray you all find joy in remembering all the wonderful times you spent with her. And know that God promises that if we draw close to Him then He will draw close to us – James 4:8. So never underestimate the power of prayer. He is ALWAYS there to listen and most importantly provide comfort.

  42. Tommy,

Sandy & I were shocked to hear about your wife. We are in Oregon this morning and won’t be back for a couple of weeks. We’re driving so we couldn’t make it back for the service. Sandy & I have both been down this same road so we can understand at least in part what you are feeling and I know it doesn’t make sense. We’ll be in touch when we get back but know in the meantime you have our deepest sympathy and we’ll be praying for strength and wisdom for you in the coming days. Glad to hear at least your dad is doing some better. I’d like to call you but don’t have your phone number. Our e-mail is nanasandy6@frontier.com so you could send me your number that way or leave me a message at 828-550-3892. See you soon.
