Arden ~ Eugene ''Gene'' Jay Baldwin, 53, 0f 370 Sycamore Drive, died Monday, April 8, 2002 at his residence.

A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Baldwin was the husband of Brenda Bell Baldwin.

A past Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #72, Mr. Baldwin was a Vietnam War veteran having served in the 101st Airborne Division of the Army. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver and was a member of VFW Post #891, the National Rifle Association and the Asheville Rifle and Pistol Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Wilma Baldwin of Asheville; his father, Charles Baldwin and his wife, Nancy of Asheville; a daughter, Joan Baldwin Schmidt and her husband, Robert of Las Vegas, NV; a son, David Baldwin and his wife, Alison of Morganton and five grandchildren, Andrew and Breanna Baldwin of Easley, SC, Mackenzie Graham of Morganton, and Cori and Cale Ogle of Swannanoa.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM at Mills River Presbyterian Church with Reverend Randall Boggs officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road where Mr. Baldwin will remain until 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
