Eugene Peek, 72, of Fletcher, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at his residence. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Ben and Maude Fender Peek Sr. Mr. Peek was a veteran of the US Army (1956-58) and also served four years in the Army Reserves. He retired from Sayles Biltmore Bleachery, where he had worked for 27 years. He loved Las Vegas, auto racing and working outdoors and will be missed by his faithful dog, Karie. He was of the Baptist faith. Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Willadean Payne Peek; two daughters, Lavonne Boone and her husband, Jeff, of Asheville and Lisa Auer and her husband, David, of Charlotte; one son, Richard Peek of Greensboro; one granddaughter, Stacy Finch Allen and her husband, Jake, of Marshall; two sisters, Kay Bradley and her husband, Ned, of Arden and Judy McCurry and her husband, Bill, of Fletcher; three brothers, Ben Peek Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Fletcher, Leonard Peek and his wife, Kay, of Fletcher and Bob Peek of Duncan, SC as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 21, 2010 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Reverends Jeff Wilkie and Chester Owenby officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.

    I was so sad to hear of Mr. Peek’s passing. I know he is in a better place now and we will see him again where there is no more pain or sorrow.
