Evelyn C. Fulghum

October 2, 1909 ~ July 12, 1998
Mrs. Fulghum was born in Buncombe County and was the daughter of the late Thomas D. and Mary McKinney Collins. She remembered when, as a child of a deputy sheriff, she used to play in the yard of the old County Courthouse, near the family milk cow shed.
Her adult life was spent in many church and civic activities. She was choir director, organist, pianist, Sunday School teacher, and chairman of the Administrative Board at Oak Hill Church. Her civic activities include charter member and past president of the NC Women's Beakfast Club, Asheville Credit Breakfast Club, and Quota Club.She was employed for 12 years by the Asheville Merchants Assn., 25 years by Vogue Furriers, and 13 years by the Opportunity Corporation. In addition, she taught piano and organ until 1998 when declining health caused her to cease.
She is survived by a step-daughter, Freddie Hart, a step-son, Henry Fulghum; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several cousins.
