Evelyn Elizabeth King Chapman, 83, of Asheville, died Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Aston Park Health Care Center. A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Margie Hall King. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leon O. Chapman; her daughter, Carol S. Paxton; her sister, Doris King; and her brother, Jack King. Mrs. Chapman was a teachers assistant for the Buncombe Co. School System. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Chapman is survived by her daughter, Ruth Cannon; son, David Chapman; sisters, Reva King (Leo), and Eva Worley (Doug); brothers, Hubert, William (Earlene), Clyde (Christine), Wayne, and Hurley (Melinda) King; sisters-in-law, Martha King and Sandra Johnson (Perry); and 20 nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Douglas Worley officiating. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carol Paxton Memorial Business Computer Technology (BCT) Scholarship, c/o AB Tech Foundation, 340 Victoria Rd. Asheville, NC 28801.
