Evelyn & Hamp Young
Evelyn Wilson Young died Tuesday, February 8, 2000 and her husband Hamilton “Hamp” Young,
died Saturday, September 2, 2000 at their home.
Former resident’s of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Fred G. and Nancy Lane Wilson. He was a son of the late Joe Henry and Carrie Redman Young Sr. Mrs. Young was a former Secretary at Grace Baptist Church. Mr. Young was a former employee with the Asheville Police
Department before serving the US Army during WW II with the 36th Division 2nd Invasion. He was later employed with the US Postal Service retiring in 1974. Mr. Young was a member and co-chairman with his wife Evelyn in the Woodfin Golden Age Club and both were active members of
Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include their daughters, Andrea Young of Dallas, TX, Marsha Bone of Naples, FL; their
granddaughter Linda Main of Atlanta, GA; her sisters, Helen Meredith of Brandon, MI, Sara Bengston of Arlington, VA, and Freddie Brown of
Sacramento, CA; his brothers, Joe “Hunky” Young Jr., Clarence “Snuffy” Young and JC “Bo” Young all of Asheville, Harold “Roonie” Young of
Weaverville; and his sister-in-law, Gladys Young of Asheville.
A double memorial service will be held for Mr. and Mrs. Young at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church. Reverend Dr. Darrell Smith
will officiate. Private burial will be in
Green Hills Cemetery. The families will receive friends following the service at the church.
Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 718 Haywood Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.
I knew and worked with ‘Hamp’
for many years at the Asheville Post Office and we
were good friends. Our sincere
sympathy is extended to ‘Hamp’
and Evelyn’s family.

dad and our dad were brothers. may God bless each
