EVERETT PROFFITT
Everett Proffitt, 86, of 23
Shady Oak Drive, Asheville, died
Saturday, October 25, 2003, at the
Asheville VA Medical Center.
Mr. Proffitt was born in
Madison County and was a son of the
late T.J. and Lula Rice Proffitt. He
served in the US Army with the 24th
Infantry and the 19th Infantry during
WW II. He received the Purple Heart
in the victory of Mindanao. He was a
Mastor Sharpshooter and was a
member of the NRA. He was a retired
shop foreman with the City of
Asheville.
He is survived by his iwfe
of 55 years, Erma Norton Proffitt; two
sisters, Ida Mae Egar of Greeneville,
TN and Faye Wilcox of Asheville, and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at
2:00 pm Monday in the Patton
Avenue chape of Groce Funeral
Home with the Rev. Terry Duckworth
officiating. Military honors will be
provided by the Buncombe County
Veterans Council Memorial Team at
Ashelawn Gardens.
His family will receive
friends at the funeral home one hour
prior to the service.
