Ewald ''Eddie'' Ludwig Mertens
December 10, 1925 ~ March 28, 2001

A native of Nordenham, Germany, Mr. Mertens was a son of the late Ludwig and Frieda Mertens and the husband of Bertha Helene Wild Mertens.
After moving to the US in 1954, Mr. Mertens owned and operated a tool and dye-making business.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark Merters and his wife, Leigh Ann of Hendersonville and Ronnie Merters and his wife, Missy of Fletcher; a brother, Ludwig Mertens and his wife, Friedel of Nordenham, Germany; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, April 1 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with The Rev. Mark Nieting officiating.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund, 51 Wilburn Place, Asheville, NC 28806.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Eddie was a great friend of mine. We shared many good times on the tennis courts around Buncombe county. I will miss him. Bertha, Ronnie, and Mark, I mourn the loss with you. I’ll see you Sunday at church.

So very sorry. I know just what you are fealing. I lost
my dad about three years ago. But time healed me as it will you and your’s. It’s very strange, but I think I spend more time with him now than I did then. I will be thinking of you,your mom, and brother.
