Fannie Mildred Smith Moody Asheville ~ Fannie Mildred Smith Moody, 95, of Asheville and formerly of Skyland, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Born on July 18, 1922 in Jacksonville, FL, she was a daughter of the late William and Gertrude Weeks Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, John Carl Moody, who died in 2012. Fannie worked for over 30 years with the Buncombe County Schools in food service and was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church for over 74 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Moody Wood (Rick), of Hendersonville, Barbara Moody Weinkle (Brian), of Asheville and Brenda Moody of Asheville; one sister, Margaret Pratt of Dacula, GA; two grandchildren, Andrew Weinkle (Jennifer) and Angela Weinkle, as well as two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Grace Weinkle and Lydia Katherine Weinkle, all of Greenville, SC. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Interment will follow at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 PM on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that memorial donations made in Fannie’s name to Memory Care of Asheville, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.

  1. Miss Fannie was a very special lady. Over the last two years, I did not get to care for her as much. However, over the years I had the pleasure of caring for her and looking forward to each encounter. I always made my work easy. She will be missed.

    Please accept my deepest sympathy for your family at this sad time, and I will hold all of you in my thoughts and prayers as well.
    I remember a very special lady that came to my classroom once a week when Angela was in the 2nd Grade. She worked with the children in the class doing so many activities. She always had a kind word and a generous smile.
    I know that she will be missed by all of you. Please take comfort in knowing that she touched many with her spirit, and I know this spirit will be carried in your hearts today and in the days to come.
