faye penland
Ollie Faye Marshbanks Penland, 85, went to be with the Lord and her husband of 62 years, Glenn Porter (Peevine) Penland on September 1, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Stephen Lee Roy and Cora Genoa Hobson Marshbanks. Faye was a lover of nature. She appreciated and admired all God’s beauty everyday of her life. She was especially fond of nature’s bounty of pinecones, acorns and pods. She expressed this love through her beautiful pinecone creations. She was a member of the Southern Highland Guild for over 20 years and proudly displayed and sold her works at one of her favorite places, The Folk Art Center. Faye was the beloved mother and grandmother of 8 children, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great- grandchildren. She devoted her entire life to her husband and family. She was always giving and never asked for anything in return. Her love and strength through God gave her family a shining example. Faye was an active member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church for over 60 years and the United Methodist Women’s Group. Whenever anything was needed for her church family, Faye willingly gave of her time, talents and support. Those left to cherish her memory are 7 of her children; Ronald Penland of Brevard, Stephen Penland of Forest City, Gail Moody of Waynesville, Philip Penland of Skyland, Adrian Penland, Glenda Shook and David Penland all of Candler; also her 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; her beloved sisters, Marian Jamerson and Violet Cook both of Weaverville, and Dorothy Wilson of Marion. We could never thank our Mammaw enough for all she has meant to us. Her beautiful smile, her gentle touch and her endless love for us all is a gift from God we shall treasure for always. She is as precious as God has ever created and we are so happy she is reunited with Pappaw forever in eternity. We will miss her but have many beautiful memories of her devotion and unconditional love for each and everyone of us. Thank you God for such a precious angel ! Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. today at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church on Asbury Rd., Candler.
