Florence Adelaide Barker

Florence Adelaide Barker Asheville, NC ~ Florence Adelaide Barker, 87, of Tampa, FL died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. A native of Elizabeth, NJ she was the daughter of the late Frances Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Sidney L. Barker, who died in 2005. Florence was raised in Brooklyn, NY where she became a dancer at the early age of four. She later went on to become one of the original Rockettes and performed with the USO during and after WW II in Europe and the South Pacific. She is survived by her daughter, Penny Barker Branch and her husband, Hal, of Asheville; three grandchildren, Jimi, Courtney and Katy as well as two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Adaley. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the St. Giles Chapel of Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community with Reverend Morgan Gardner officiating.
