Florence Bridenbaker Butcher, 98, of Asheville, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Givens Estates. Born in Randolph, NY, she was the wife of the late Donald Jackson Butcher, who died in 2004, and the daughter of the late Raymond and Myrtie Wright Bridenbaker. She was also preceded in death by 4 siblings: Hester, Ed, Autumn, and Helen. Florence was employed as a toll monitor for the New York State Thruway for many years until her retirement. An avid Buffalo Bills fan, she will be fondly remembered for her green thumb and her love of bowling, birds, and knitting. She loved basketball and played her whole life. Florence was a star of the girls’ basketball team in high school, and as a retiree she won gold medals in the Senior Olympics. Florence is survived by 2 daughters: Marcia Gallineaux-Hubert (Mark) of Olean, NY and Marlene Whitaker (Gary) of Asheville; 4 grandchildren: Patrik Gallineaux, Heather Goldstein (Jeremy), Gretchen Gallineau Ward (Owen), and Caleb Whitaker (Kathy); 8 great-grandchildren: Zeke, Abe, Shepherd, and Moses Goldstein; Lucian, Gabriel, and Willow Francis; and Ethan Whitaker; a brother, George Bridenbaker of Kennedy, NY; and a sister, Ethel Frangione of Jamestown, NY. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Hanover, NY at a later date.
