Florence Cathey, 96, formerly of Candler, died Monday, November 8, 2004, at Aston Park Health Care Center.
A native of Buncombe County she was the last of eleven children of the late James T. and Ida Wright Cathey. She was a graduate of Candler High School where she played on the basketball team and was also a graduate of Blanton’s Business College. Miss Cathey was a former resident of New Haven, CT, where she worked for the Knights of Columbus for 26 years.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
At her request there will be no visitation, viewing or service. Memorials may be made to Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 84 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.

I really enjoyed our visits together these last few years. Our good times and laughs together.
I will certainly miss my ‘Auntie’. I could always go to her with any questions about family history, who cousins were, how we were related to someone, just anything about family. She could also tell me early history of Asheville and Candler. Just in August she told me again where Devils Dip was. She was an encyclopedia of information!!! If I ever needed a recipe she could tell me how to make something. She knew EVERYTHING.She’s the last of a generation. I will really, really miss you, Auntie. Love you,
