Florence Tyndall Hoffman

Florence Tyndall Hoffman, 103, of Arden and formerly of Springfield, Pennsylvania died Tuesday December 21, 2021 at Trinity View in Arden.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Charles Hoffman, and her second husband, Anthony Ligatti. Florence was the daughter of sharecropper, Willie Tyndall of Lenoir County, and Martha Evada McDaniel born in Sampson County. She was one of eighteen children born to this loving union.

Florence was a Registered Nurse and worked at Children’s Hospital in Washington DC. She was also a veteran and quite proud of her service as a nurse in the United States Navy in World War II. She was about to be transferred to the US Navy Hospital in Bremerton, Washington when the war with Japan was concluded.

She loved to play cards with her friends at Trinity View. Other games of interest included cribbage and Mahjong. She also became quite adept at shooting pool and was a regular participant (and winner) in weekly tournaments. She quickly earned the title of Shark!

Florence was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Arden.

She is survived by her son, Paul Hoffman of San Antonio, TX and her daughter, Katherine Prosperi of Mishawaka, IN; two brothers John Tyndall of Leicester, NC and Paul Tyndall of Asheville; three grandchildren Rachel Beck of San Antonio, TX, Derek Hoffman of Pflugerville, TX and Jenifer Sullivan of Granger, IN; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service. Masks are required in the building.
