Florence Emilina West Reed, 98, of Mount Clare Ave., Asheville, passed away Thursday, June 2, at her residence.
Born in Boiling Springs, NC, she was the daughter of the late Wishem and Melvine Jolly Smith. In addition, she is preceded in death by her first husband, John Harvey West and by her second husband, Sanford Reed.
She worked for 26 years as a sock boarder in hosiery mills.
She is survived by one son, Thomas West, of Weaverville; five daughters, Florence Taylor, Mary Wyatt, Melvine Roper and Ruthine Owensby, all of Asheville, and Betty Daily, of Texas; and a number of grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6, at 3:00 p.m., in the Tunnel Road chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sky View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
My Grandmother…. God sure granted and blessed you with a very long life and you did the very best that you could with what you were given. Now, it has come time for you to rest and I know that I will see you again in the arms of the Lord. All My Love !

Kat and family, I know how much you loved and cared for your mom. She will always be at home now. No worries or troubles. I know you will miss her. I love hearing the stories that you tell about some of the things she did. Those memories will remain in your heart, just like the love you have for her.

My heart goes out to all of you for such a sad loss. What a wonderful life granny lived, and you were all sooo blessed to have had her for 98 years. She is at peace now and resting with no worries. You are all now blessed with a very ‘Special Angel’
