Flo Bleakely Speidell, 73, died Thursday, September 28, 2018 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock. Ms. Speidell was born in Newport News, Virginia to the late Ernest Llewellyn Bleakley and Elizabeth Louise Duval Bleakley. She is survived by her wife, Lori Seal; two daughters, Molly Abdalkalki of Morrocco and Cary Sweeney of San Francisco, CA; a son, Grant White of Asheville, NC; a sister, Nancy Samuelson of Lancaster, SC and a brother, Neil Bleakley of Aldie, VA; three grandchildren, a large extended family and wonderful friends. Flo was a technical systems operator for John Gandy and Henry Clay Elementary Schools in Hanover County, VA for many years. She was also instrumental in starting the Richmond Emmaus Chapter in Richmond, VA. Flo loved to play bridge with The Flamingoes and Bridge Broads Women’s Bridge Clubs in Ashland, VA. Flo was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC. A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Reverend J. Clarkson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Calvary Food Pantry Fund at 2840 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher, NC 28732.

  1. Flo was a member of our Technology family in Hanover. She lit up the room with her sparkling personality and quick wit. She was much loved and will be missed. Sending prayers of comfort to Lori, her children, and family.

  6. My cousins Flo, Nancy, and I played together as children and throughout our lives as we got together we would laugh and just have fun together. It was great synergism, sweet memories and fondness for each other that survived over time. We all will miss Flo and our deepest sympathy goes out to all those who loved her.

  7. Oh Lori and kids, I’m so sorry. Flo was one of my favorite people on earth. We would have long and plentiful travel talks together. She was so happy to move to Asheville. Thoughts and prayers with you.

  13. Flo was always a positive light at Gandy Elementary! I’m so sorry to hear the news of her passing. She touched the lives of many. RIP Flo.

  14. I will miss Flo’s smile and laughter, her love of life, and her spirituality. She was a gracious and giving person. I will hold dear my memories of Flamingo Bridge, Kent Island, Ashland Jr Women’s Club, and all the subsequent laughter and joy. How fortunate we were to have Flo in our lives. She will be dearly missed.
