Floyd E. Bateman, 73, of Asheville died, Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Mr. Bateman was born, July 1, 1943 in East St. Louis, Illinois to the late Floyd A. and Frances Brown Bateman. He was a resident of Jackson County and Buncombe County over 40 years. His surviving wife of 34 years, Shirley R. Bateman, of Asheville, as well as his son, Jonathan Paul Bateman of Roslindale, MA, cherishes him. Floyd was always kind, loving and optimistic and was loved by all who knew him. Floyd received his Master's Degree in Educational Media from Western Carolina University. He retired from the Jackson County School System. He was of the Baptist faith and member of Hominy Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will take place later in this spring. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  1. Shirley and Jonathan, we are so sorry about Floyd. James and I worked with Floyd at Blue Ridge and I worked with him at Cullowhee Valley School. He was a very loving and kind man to have known and worked with for many years. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
