Fonda Bradley Sumner, 65, of 21 English Drive, Candler, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Sumner was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Fulton and Iris Ballard Bradley. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Ray Fulton Bradley. She was a past member of N.A.W.I.C. and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class of West Asheville Baptist Church. She attended Crossroads Assembly of God. Surviving are her loving husband of 48 years, C.J. Sumner, Jr.; two daughters, Rene’ Simpson and her husband, Gary, of Arden and Michelle Sprinkle and her husband, Albert, of Asheville; one son, Lamar Sumner and his wife, Cheryl, of Fairview; two granddaughters, Jessica Teil Sumner and Jillian Sidney Sumner of Fairview; two grandsons, Justin Scott Bagwell of Asheville and Bryan Eugene Simpson of Arden; one sister, Elaine Parker and her husband, Caroll, of Candler, three nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Maynor officiating. Entombment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park Mausoleum. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building One, Asheville, NC 28801.

  12. I am so sorry for your loss. As long as I can remember, CJ and Fonda have been a part of the ‘family’. They have been great friends to Betty and to our family. Whenever I talked to Betty, she always said that Fonda was asking about Bruce (and this was before she was diagnosed herself). I will always remember Fonda smiling and laughing. She was a very dear and sweet lady.
