FOY CHARLES LANNING Fletcher ~ Foy Charles Lanning, 54, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at his home in Fletcher. A native of Henderson County, he was a son of Clara Bishop Lanning Radcliff and her husband, Lamar of Asheville and of the late Amos Foy Lanning. He attended Fletcher First Baptist Church and was a loving husband, son, brother, faithful friend, nurturer of children, diligent worker, kind and patient teacher, keeper of bees and of our hearts. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Gail Garren Lanning; two brothers, Jesse Lanning and his wife, Donna of Hooper’s Creek and Alvin Lanning and his wife, Teresa of Florida; one sister, Amy Davis of Hooper’s Creek; several nieces and nephews and his running buddy, Meanie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Fletcher First Baptist Church with the Revs. David Gentry and Steve Combs officiating. Interment will follow at Hooper’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Murphy, Carroll Allen, Joe Smith, Danny Livingston, Whitey Worsham and Kevin Dale. Mark Buckner will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday at Fletcher First Baptist Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Fletcher First Baptist Church Building Fund, 5 Cane Creek Road, Fletcher, NC 28732. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  7. Foy, looking like an intimidating man, was actually a gentle giant. He was always very good to me. He took down several trees for me and always kept my chainsaws in top condition. I’m going to miss him.
