Frances “Ann” Meador, 94, of Asheville, NC, passed peacefully on February 27, 2025.
Born in Stillwater, OK, on July 5, 1930, to O.A. Hilton and Clymena Logan Hilton, she attended Oklahoma State University, earning her BA in English. Married to R. Roy Meador, Jr of Clearwater, FL, in 1952, they settled in Leesburg, FL. They raised three daughters, Rebecca A. Walsh, Toni L. Meador, and M. Melinda Meador. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 2004. Her three grandchildren, Flannery Gray Ballard of Juneau, AK, Killian Rose Ballard of Seattle, WA, and Parrish Lachlan Ballard of Juneau, AK, as well as her twin sister and brother, Janet Heightsmith, 90, of Denver, CO, and Jerold Hilton of St. George, UT, mourn her passing.
Ann’s life was a tapestry of roles and experiences. She was a musician, homemaker, teacher, author, shop owner, and quilter. Her versatility was evident in her membership in the choir of the First Presbyterian Church in Leesburg, FL., and her founding of New Life Presbyterian Church in Fruitland Park, FL.
Following a month-long trip from her home in Leesburg, FL, to their summer home in Franklin, NC, in an Amish wagon pulled by their mule Jack and their dog, Sigmund, for company, she wrote and published a book “Ain’t You Got no Cah?, detailing their journey. She loved to travel and accompanied her daughter on postings to Beijing and Buenos Aires.
As Ann’s adventures started to slow, she found solace in the simple pleasures of life. She resided with her daughter in Asheville and settled at Deerfield Retirement Center. Her love for nature was evident in her fondness for roses, dahlias, and bird watching. Her spiritual connection stayed strong through her online participation with New Hope Presbyterian Church, and her love for hymns was a constant in her life.
Services will be held at a later date.
