Frances Calvert Stockard

Frances Calvert Stockard, 83, departed from this human experience September 16, 2016 on the Harvest Full moon. Daughter Inez was by her side as she passed peacefully at Fleshers Retirement Community, Asheville NC. Harry, Frances' beloved husband and lifelong partner since the age of 15, preceded her in death. Frances was a wonderful, generous mother to daughters Harriet Inez Ghosthorse (Paul) of Asheville and the late Sarah Frances Davis (Michael Showalter) of Louisville KY; grandmother to Brooke Griffiths (Dave) of Cumming GA, Erin Hughes (Jon) of Louisville and Zelemkhan Ghosthorse of Asheville; and great-grandmother to Caiti, Eoin and Cara Griffiths, and Mattie and Lola Hauswald. We thank all those who comforted Frances in these past years and for your cards and prayers. Frances was born May 31, 1933, the only daughter of Robert Maborn and Mavis Freeman Calvert of Lawrenceburg TN. She and Harry moved to Louisville, where they lived and raised their daughters. Frances found her passion as a hairdresser at the age of 5, when folks regularly came for mother Mavis to cut their hair. She later owned her own salon, before working at Town House Salon, where she made many lifelong friends. She often went to funeral homes in Louisville to dress the hair of those she knew well who had passed. Frances retired at age 76. Frances couldn't resist cooking and feeding everyone in her life. She loved music, played the church organ at age 9, later singing and playing guitar. We knew her as a strong, talented, kind, feisty, wise and giving person who could do about anything and who met each challenge head on with love and a positive attitude. She taught us about unconditional love. She lived and died fearlessly. That is her legacy. A small ceremony will take place in Louisville. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Hospice, Alzheimer's Association or Humane Society.
