Frances P. Cannady, of Asheville, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2009, following a decline in health. Known to friends and family as Fran, she was born Frances Maxine Parnell to Lester and Beth Parnell, in Dubuque, IA, in 1920. After completing nurses training and graduating from nursing school in Davenport, IA, she enlisted in the Army Nurses Corps and served in New Guinea for 2 years during World War II. She married Nathaniel Ellis Cannady, Jr., in 1946, and they lived in Orlando, FL, Raleigh, NC, and New York, NY, before settling in Asheville, in 1951. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, served as Secretary of M.B. Haynes Corporation, and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, in Asheville. Fran will be remembered for her kindness and love of friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Ellis; children, Lynne Cannady and husband David Ford, Brett Cannady and wife Angie, and Buzzy Cannady and close friend, Kathy Hoyle; grandchildren, Lindsay Cannady Harris, Phillip, Jessica, and Melissa Cannady, James and Jill Banks; and sister, Phyllis MacLennan. A private graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Eddie Morgan and Leah Brown at Lewis Memorial Park. Her family gives special thanks to the caring staff of Aston Park Health Care Center, and to special friend, Lucille Gunter. The family requests no flowers.   2. Fran will always be remembered as very loving and accepting mother, Mother-In-Law, and grandmother. We can thank God for the mercy that in the last years of her life, she was unaware of the unnecessary suffering and sadness in the lives of some of her beloved grandchildren. I will always cherish the holidays, vacations,(shopping trips!) and memories shared with Fran. She will be missed!
