Fred Dale Cole, 88, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Dale was born June 29, 1934, in Buncombe County to the late William and Eva Miller Cole. He served in the US Army, stationed in Japan following the Korean War. He was with the First Cavalry Division, 8th Cavalry Regiment, Heavy Mortar Company. He retired from the Maintenance Dept. of the Buncombe County School System.

Mr. Cole enjoyed fishing and was an avid Carolina Tar Heel fan. He enjoyed bird-watching and feeding all the wildlife that came through his yard, deer, turkeys and squirrels.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jessie Lunsford Cole; three sisters, Monica Smith, Gloria Kennedy (Chuck) and Obera Currin; three brothers, Herb Cole (Jean), Mack Cole and David Cole; as well as a number of nieces and nephews, including Deena R. Boles (Allen) and Christy Rigsby; great-nieces, Sarah Boles and Chelsea Franklin; great-nephews, Chase Boles and Colby Arnett, and a great-great-niece, Caysley Franklin. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Calabrese and Betty Sorrells and brothers, Joe Cole and Gene Cole.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at Bowman Rector Cemetery, 1068 Skyway Drive, Marshall, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Restoration Quarters, 1329 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
