Furman Alton Williams, Jr. 85, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville.

Mr. Williams was born in Buncombe County to the late Furman Alton Williams, Sr. and Gladys Smith Williams. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ted, Melvin, David and Clarence Williams and two sisters, Barbara McDonald and Eva Meece.

Furman attended Valley Springs High School. He retired from Cranston Print Works after 40 years of service. He was an active member of Skyland First Baptist Church. He volunteered at Skyland Fire Department for many years prior to retiring and after he retired, he still served the community through ABCCM for 17 years. Furman was a loving husband and he loved his family with all his heart. He enjoyed playing the guitar, country music, and fishing. He was a dear friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janette Emory Williams; a daughter, Sheila Franklin (Mike); a son, Rex Williams (Sarah); a sister, Imogene Helms; a brother, Jim Williams; four grandchildren, Brandi Laughter (Brentley), Bonnie Garren (Derrick), Elizabeth Franklin (Andy Wurst) and Barret Williams of the home; five great grandchildren, Brent, Jack and Will Laughter, Hayden and Hazel Garren, in addition to many nieces, nephews and too many close friends to name.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Skyland First Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Ponder officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.
