Gary Pressley

Gary Pressley, 78, died Wed. Aug. 16th after an extended illness.

A native of Asheville, NC, Gary attended Lee Edwards High School. Upon graduation, he attended Wake Forest University. After earning his BA, he enlisted in the Army and served two years primarily stationed in Korea. He received an honorable discharge and returned to the states working primarily in banking, later returning to college to earn his Master’s degree in Library Science from UNC-Chapel Hill. He worked for 25 years as head librarian in Graham County.

He was an active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Asheville. During his time in Robbinsville, NC, he was involved with the Lion’s Club, Ham Radio, and the Boy Scouts. All who knew Gary, experienced his honesty, kindness, and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Eloise Pressley, brother Harvey Lee Pressley, and niece Leesa Rauum. Surviving is his sister, Patricia Hamlin (Ed) of Asheville, brother, Kenneth Pressley (Alison) of Madison, AL, his “precious” nieces, Jordan Hamlin and Illysa Hamlin, both of Asheville, nephew Michael Pressley of Hillsboro, TN, and great nephew, Jake Rauum of Fort Worth, TX.

A service will be held in his honor on Sept. 16th at 1pm at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 51 Wilburn Pl. Asheville, NC 28806.
