Geneva Cebrina Bowman, 76 of Asheville was called home to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 13, 2011. "Jan" was born in Hot Springs, NC and raised in Newport, Tennessee. She later moved to Asheville where she worked as a model for Ivey's department store and a dental assistant. She was a devoted homemaker, wife and mother, who loved her church, enjoyed going to yard sales and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Covenant Community United Methodist Church. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Kenneth Bowman, Sr. of Asheville; two sons, Jay and Terry Arnette both of Fairview; step-son, Randy Bowman and wife Terri of Asheville; step-daughter, Barbara Bowman Hensley and husband Michael of Black Mountain; four sisters, Juanita Pack of Cleveland, Ohio, Grace Clark and Edith Evans of Newport, Tennessee, and her beloved sister, Trudy Patterson of Asheville, NC; six grandchildren, J.J., Misty, Luke and Thomas Arnette and Ryan Bowman and Joshua Hensley; three great-grandchildren. As she walks along the golden streets of heaven, she will rejoice upon reuniting with her father and mother Burnett and Channie Cummings; her brother, Swan Cummings, Jr. and sisters, Ruth Rice and Elizabeth Burke as well as the many friends she has seen pass on over the years. A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Covenant Community United Methodist Church with the Rev. Claude Kaylor officiating. Interment will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to Covenant Community United Methodist Church, 11 Rocket Drive, Asheville, NC 28803. Groce Funeral Home East Asheville on Tunnel Road is in charge of arrangements.
