George Edward “Ed” Baskerville Jr., 73, of Fletcher, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, December 12, 2020.

A native of Asheville, Ed was the son of the late George E. Baskerville Sr. and Catherine S. Baskerville.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 42 years, Mary Lipe Baskerville; loving daughter, Tina Smolarz (Aaron) of Lutherville, MD; his dear, sweet grandchildren, Max and Caroline Smolarz; one devoted sister, Jean Robbins (Erv) of Candler, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ed was a 1965 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and attended Mars Hill College until he was drafted into the US Army, where he proudly served in Vietnam. He loved to play golf with his buddies Joe Reid, Mike Kelly and Larry Mucci and was especially proud of his hole-in-one at “Muni”.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Green Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Michael J. Fox Foundation (www.michaeljfox.org) or to Four Seasons Compassion For Life Hospice, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

  1. Will always remember spending the holiday times with Ed. He was a very sweet man who along with Mary welcomed me into the family. So sad he is gone and may you Rest In Peace.

  2. Tim, Chris and I are so sad to hear of Ed’s passing. He was a great guy, terrific brother-in-law, and so devoted to my sweet sister Mary and niece Tina. He will be greatly missed. The big Fairway in the sky has gained a true gentleman and an angel. Love you!
