George Lloyd Bishop, 78, of 167 Euclid Bvld., Asheville, died Sunday, October 31, 1999 at Hospice Solace Center.


A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late James B. and Bessie Robertson Bishop and was preceded in death by his wife Betty James Bishop who died in 1978. He was a Army veteran of WW II and was very active in events for the 243rd Signal Operations Company US Army. He was a retired employee with 43 years of service with the City of Asheville; was a member of Parents without Partners, VFW and the Amitie Club. George was an avid golfer, loved to travel and was a member of Patton Avenue Baptist Church.


He is survived by two daughters, Leesa B. Jones and her husband Raymond of Candler, Linda B. Grant and her husband Denver Jr. of Novato, CA; a son Larry L. Bishop and his wife Barbara of Candler; two sisters, Ruth Robinson and his twin
Lois Hollingsworth both of Asheville; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Father Hugh C. Edsall and Alexander H. Hank officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military graveside rites being
conducted by the Enka High School Jr. ROTC.

His family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
