George Louis Woods, 80, of 23 Enka Lake Trail, Enka, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Magnolia Health Care Center. Mr. Woods was born in McDowell County, WV, and was a son of the late William Jennings Bryant Woods and the late Rosa Bell Sonzinia Woods. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Martha Thompson and Dorcas Black; a brother, Howard Woods, step-mother, Mary Woods, and two daughters-in-law, Debbie Woods and Linda Wyatt Woods. He served with the US Army during WW II and received the Army of Occupation Medal and the WW II Victory Medal. He worked for 21 years with General Telephone in West Virginia, and more recently D.O. Creasman Co., Burligton Industries, and Charles D. Owen Manufacturing Co. He was a member of the Masons and the American Legion, both in West Virginia. Surviving are his wife, Eva L. Woods; five sons, Larry and wife, Penny, of Enka, Donald and wife, Mary, of Atlanta, GA, Marvin Wayne and wife Debbie, of Leicester, George and wife Connie of Candler, and Charles and special friend, Brenda, of Asheville; son-in-law, Tony Black of Candler; a sister, Lorraine Barnett of Norfolk, VA; two brothers, Robert Lee Woods of Chicago, IL and Johnnie Woods of Alvarado, TX; 25 grandchildren, Melissa, Melody, Michelle, Bryan, Kristy, Michael, Shannon, Jeff, Chris, Randy, Jr., Charlie, Carmella “Sasaro”, Robert, Jeremy, Lane, Tonya, Jesse Wayne, Krystal, Candice, Roger Dale Jr., Sandra, Sharon, Jonathan, T.J., and Angela, and 44 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Donald Woods, Brad Parker, and Larry Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

  6. George was one of my residents at Magnolia. He was a very kind, gentle man. He always had a sweet smile for me every morning. I will remember him saying ‘alrighty’ to anything I asked of him. I miss him. I am very sorry for your loss.
