George Wallace Rose, 85, of Asheville, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at his home.
A native of West Virginia, George was a son of the late William Eldon Rose and Pearl Ethel Eller Rose. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Sharpe Rose, and his daughter, Brenda Kaye Rose Crisp.
Mr. Rose was a retired truck driver from Fredrickson & Chase Trucking, and he drove a school bus for Special Needs children for the Progressive Education Program in Buncombe County.
One word that described him was “humble.” He was a member of Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church. He loved the Lord, and loved and adored his wife and children. He played guitar and piano, and loved playing at church. He also loved woodworking, Westerns, college basketball, MLB, and spending time with family.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Denise Rose, Rita Geraldine Rose, Angela Michelle Rose Carreiro (Christopher), and Anita Christine Rose Merrill (Mike); son, Steven Eldon Rose (Beverly); 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Rev. Powell Young officiating. A livestream of the funeral service will be broadcast below. Burial will follow at Crawford Ray Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Christopher Robinson, Chris Carreiro, Jacob Grainger, Jaden Grainger, Dylan Bradford, Daniel Inman, Kody Sams and Devin Robinson.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

God bless your family abundantly during this temporary separation!!! We’re sorry for your loss but not for George’s home-going! God is so good to have let you guys have such a wonderful man that loved his family, but that also loved his Lord!!! He was always such a calming presence and encouragement to our family!
